Featured Crafter

Please welcome Lauren Meader! I have loved looking at Lauren's website since the first day I came upon it and admire all the hard work she puts into her work. And I am sure that if you haven't been there before, you will become a daily reader! She is involved in a number of sites....let me list them all for you!

I wasn't kidding about her being someone to admire! She does so much great work for all of these companies. Lauren has an amazing story, so I'll let her tell you a bit about herself.

Well I use to be a nurse. While I have kept up my credentials, I am now a SAHM mom to 3 children. My oldest daughter Alexa is 8, and has Down Syndrome. She was also diagnosed with Leukemia in Feb 06. She will finally be done with her 2 1/2 years of Chemo this May!!
You can read her story HERE.

Having her in my life, seeing the world through her eyes, and going through the roller-coaster of life, has taught me more that I can put into words.

Mainly I would say, take nothing for granted, live each day to the fullest, and be thankful for it! Don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today, and the SKY is the limit!

You don't know what you can accomplish if you don't try!! Nothing is impossible if you work hard.

If you told me 5 years ago I would be where I am today, I would have thought you were crazy! ME do something crafty and artsy-NO WAY!!! NOW-stamping is my passion. It turned me from an un-crafty person to an artist. I truly enjoy every aspect of it, and sharing it with others. I never thought I would be doing anything crafty. I always WANTED to be crafty, but couldn't find my niche. Once I picked up that first stamp it was all over.

I also asked Lauren a few questions I thought would be fun to hear answers to.

How did you get started with crafts?
It all started with a gift card to a craft store for my birthday! I was NOT crafty and had no idea WHAT to buy. My MIL stamped me cards, so I figured maybe I would try it. Since I couldn't draw and the work was done for me, I thought it may be fun. I figured if I didn't use or like what I bought I could just give it to her, no money lost or anything-So ONE flower stamp, black ink pad, set of notecards and colored pencils later-here I am. I fell in love.

How much time per day do you spend on your crafts? Is it enough? :)
I try to stamp daily. Even if it is just for an hour, because it keeps the creative juices flowing. It really relieves my stress too, so I do my best to schedule it in every afternoon. Having 3 kids that doesn't always happen. I do get 2 days a week-a 3 hour block, that is kid-free! I get most stuff done then. No there is never enough time when you are doing something you love. I could stamp day and night.

What is your favorite craft item to use or project to make?
My favorite craft item-I have to say my ATG Gun, and my Scor-Pal! I use them endlessly and they are invaluable to me. My favorite thing to make is shaped cards and altering 3D items. I find it very rewarding.

Where do you get your inspiration (for your stamp creating or card making)?
I am inspired from everything! From ads on TV, business signs, to my kids underwear! I am forever sketching ideas in a note book.

Do you have any advice for fellow crafters out there? Words of wisdom, perhaps? :)
My biggest piece of advice is MAKE TIME and DON'T GIVE UP! The more you stamp the better you get. I still make awful stuff time to time. Its how you learn and grow. Try color and sketch challenges, as they will also help you grow and learn. Don't limit yourself. Write down your ideas. Don't be afraid to try new things, read up on techniques and other stuff. Mostly have fun with it. Remember not everything will be a masterpiece and some of your best creations can from from a mistake.

Like all of the other fabulous crafters I have featured, it was hard to pick just a few. These are some Lauren gave me as well as some of my favorites. I love how bright and cheery all of her cards are! Enjoy!

I have learned so much from Lauren, not just about stamping, but also about carrying on when times are tough, having a good attitude, and following your bliss. Sounds like I'm talking about Oprah, but these traits all sum up Lauren. What a fantastic talent and person

Congrats Lauren
