Featured Crafter

Please welcome Lydia Fiedler! After spending a little time on her website, I was hooked. She is so funny and witty with her writing....and her projects are great, too! I think that a person's personality can really come out when they are writing. I am honored to have such a sweet, friendly lady to write about! Here is a little more about Lydia in her words.

I'm a marketing and graphic design chick and have been crafting since I was 11. My Myers-Briggs type is ENTJ, I've been quoted in Martha Stewart Living, and I am addicted to quad short breve lattes at Starbucks, LOST, The Office and Russian literature. I'm married, no kids, Texan. I love to cook and I'm a long distance walker - did the Breast Cancer 60 mile walk in 2006.

Companies I'm associated with: I'm a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator (My SU site) and Starving Artistamps, which I'm on the Design Team for and teach classes at Marmalade Skies.

I also asked Lydia a few questions I thought would be fun to hear answers to.

How did you get started with crafts?
I got my start in crafts in Brownies when I was 6 and I have not stopped since. The project I remember sparking my love of paper art was a hand cut snowflake. It still stops my heart to cut a paper snowflake.

How much time per day do you spend on your crafts? Is it enough? :)
I spend about 3 hours per day after work stamping or looking for ideas.Of course it's about a billionth of what I'd like to spend, but I have to pay for my house!!

What is your favorite craft item to use or project to make?
I absolutely love glittery shiny things. So my favorite products are my iridescent ice embossing powder, my stickles and my rhinestone brads.

Where do you get your inspiration (for your stamp creating or card making)?
I absolutely get my inspiration from my day - people's clothing, nature, the internet. Everything I see becomes a color combination or layout in my mind.

Do you have any advice for fellow crafters out there? Words of wisdom, perhaps? :)
My best advice is to stop fretting over being original. Originality is just taking ELEMENTS from other people and making them your own. You will always leave a mark on a project you are "copying" so let go of the stress of designing and copy what you like.

Here is a sample of Lydia's work! She makes such gorgeous cards and projects! Her use of color is great and her cards all turn out looking fabulous!
