Alli Miles

Please welcome Alli Miles! I have always loved Alli's website. She has such gorgeous cards on her site. You should definitely check it out! Alli is a stay and work at home mom. She is a school teacher for an online school. What a cool job! Alli is on the Cornish Heritage Farms Design Team and the Paper Pretties Design Team. She is also a Guest Designer for Scor-Pal. I admire anyone on design teams. I think that is such an honor. Alli has been published and had a role in the Stampin' Up! French version of the "Getting Started" video in 2005. She also has some crafting surprises in store for 2008! I am so excited to see what they are!

I also asked Alli a few questions I thought would be fun to hear answers to.

How did you get started with crafts?
With inspiration in my life, I delved into paper crafts after the birth of my son in 2002 by creating simple scrapbook layouts. It wasn’t until early 2004 that my interest shifted to rubber stamps and cards when I attended a SU! workshop and signed up to become a demonstrator.

How much time per day do you spend on your crafts? Is it enough? :)
I started slow by adding a minimum of 15-45 minutes of mandatory crafting time a day. Being at home with the kids as well as working from home doesn’t provide me with a lot of “off-time”. I decided that crafting was “mommy” time and now I commit to 1-2 hours a day. Of course in my mind that is not enough time *lol* but I willingly walk away from tv and the computer and find time to do what I love.

What is your favorite craft item to use or project to make?
Wow, that is a tough question. Just one? Probably my Nestabilities! It is my newest purchase (thanks) and I truly cannot live without it. Don’t we all just have a love affair with scallops?

Where do you get your inspiration (for your stamp creating or card making)?
My inspiration truly comes from day to day life. I see “designs” at the mall, from my children’s clothing, in magazines, in flyers, on food packages, on clothing, walking into someone’s house (colour/layout), the possibilities are endless. I make sure to carry my design book around in my purse just in case I see something--I either jot down some notes or sketch a layout.

Do you have any advice for fellow crafters out there? Words of wisdom, perhaps? :)
Dream Big: set goals and determine your own success.
When I first started crafting I had two babies (my children are 14 months apart). I was a busy mom and I was tired all the time. I just didn’t have time to do much crafting. There came a point when I thought, “I deserve some mommy time”. I decided no matter what the day brought forth, I would set aside 15 minutes to complete something. It started with a title for my scrapbook page. The next time it hauled out my supplies I focused on choosing papers and mounting my photos. Eventually I would complete a page or two—success! It took me quite a while in the beginning so I started setting goals for myself. Goals are essential. Start small and work big. When I started card making, my goal was to complete a certain number of cards in a month, then I narrowed it down to a week. My goals grew bigger and bigger from blogging, to getting published to getting on a design team. I truly believe that we can create what we want in life. I have a passion for papercrafts and I know that there is more in store for me yet.

I have included a few pictures of her work for you to admire! This is just a very small sample, so be sure to get a hot chocolate and a blanket and browse her site to see more! I have even included one of the cards she sent me! I have to say, they are even more stunning in person!
