Featured Crafter Friday

November 2, 2007 - 8:18am

I am starting something new that I hope you will enjoy. I have wanted to do this since I started this site, but haven't gotten around to it until now. And I have some great people lined up to share with you!

So without further ado...

Becky Oehlers

Please welcome Becky. She is fairly new to stamping, but has made a huge impact in a short time! She has a wonderful site that she posts her beautiful work on. You may also know her as "Sing n' Stamp" on Splitcoast Stampers. She recently became part of the new Kitchen Sink Stamps design team. Becky is also currently a guest designer for Staving Artistamps. She isn't just an amazing crafter, but also an amazing opera singer. You can hear her lovely voice on her MySpace page. Be ready to get blown away! I have also made a new friend in Becky, and have to say she is a dear, sweet, kind, and generous person. I hope you stop by her site and leave some wonderful words for her.

I also asked Becky a few questions I thought would be fun to hear answers to.

How did you get started with crafts?
My friend who likes to do it introduced me to it and I haven't stopped since. I also grew up watching my Grandma who was an expert in decoupage and repousee. She did the most amazing work.

How much time per day do you spend on your crafts? Is it enough? :)
Anywhere from about 2 hours to a whole day if I am lucky! Most of that time is developing a concept for whatever I am making. Posting daily on the blog helps keep me disciplined.

What is your favorite craft item to use or project to make?
As you may have noticed, I love boxes. There is something so beautiful about a box. I think it is because you know something good and wonderful will always be inside!

Where do you get your inspiration (for your stamp creating or card making)?
By always trying to think outside of the box. I am not a big fan of CASEing cards or anything else, but I WILL use a great template for a project if I like it, but then I always try and put my own spin on the outcome.

Do you have any advice for fellow crafters out there? Words of wisdom, perhaps? :)
My biggest concern for this love of ours is that we spend too much money on what we do. Always search the Internet for the lowest price and use coupons on big ticket items in your craft store. Think to yourself, will I use this again three years down the line? Is it versatile enough? If you have a friend who loves to stamp maybe you can share punches or the bigger ticket items so it doesn't become too much of a burden when the bill comes! Also... don't buy too much designer paper at once. Styles and colors change quickly and then what do you do with all of that paper?

I have included a few pictures of her work for you to admire!

Andrea, your guest crafter idea is great. Since Becky's my daughter, I really liked your question/ answer interview. Becky has only been stamping for a short time, and I learned a lot about what she's doing from the interview. Your site looks wonderful.

Thanks
